Getting Started
01 What is Blue Butterfly and who is it for?

Blue Butterfly is core logging software built for exploration geologists. If you're managing drill hole data in Excel or battling legacy geo-software, Blue Butterfly gives you a proper relational database with an interface geologists can actually use — in the field and the office.

02 How long does it take to get set up on a new project?

Most teams are logging data within a few hours. Pre-built templates for common deposit types — porphyry copper, gold skarn, VMS, and more — mean you can configure fields and lookups to match your project geology without starting from scratch.

03 Do I need an IT team or database admin to use Blue Butterfly?

No. Blue Butterfly is designed so geologists can configure and manage it themselves. No SQL knowledge, no server setup, no IT ticket required. If you can set up a project in Leapfrog, you can set up Blue Butterfly.

Data & Security
04 Where is my data stored?

Your data lives in a cloud-hosted SQL database with automatic backups and point-in-time recovery. You're not depending on a shared drive, a USB stick, or a contractor's laptop disappearing after the field season ends.

05 Can I get my data out if I stop using Blue Butterfly?

Yes — always. You own your data, full stop. Export to CSV or industry-standard formats at any time, with no lock-in and no questions asked.

06 How does Blue Butterfly prevent data entry errors?

Data is validated as you type, checked against configurable lookup tables and schema rules. Collar coordinate mismatches, missing required fields, and invalid values surface immediately — not after you've built a resource model on bad data.

Integrations & Exports
07 Which modeling software does Blue Butterfly export to?

Currently Leapfrog, ArcGIS, Datamine, and Micromine, plus CSV for anything else. Define your column mapping once and reuse it across every project — no Excel gymnastics every time you hand off data.

08 Can I import existing drill hole data from Excel?

Yes. Structured Excel import with field mapping, plus a review step that flags inconsistencies before anything hits the database. Most legacy datasets import cleanly with a few column remaps.

09 Does Blue Butterfly work without internet access in the field?

The current version requires an internet connection. Offline field mode with automatic sync is on our roadmap — join the beta and let us know how critical it is for your projects.

Pricing & Beta
10 How much does Blue Butterfly cost?

We're currently in beta and access is free. Pricing will be announced before general availability. Beta users get preferential rates locked in before public launch.

11 How do I join the beta?

Enter your email in the signup form on this site. We're onboarding teams on a rolling basis, with priority given to active exploration projects.

12 What do I get as a beta tester?

Early access to all features, a direct line to the product team, and real input on the roadmap. We treat beta testers as partners — your feedback shapes what gets built next.
