Overview

What is Blue Butterfly?

Blue Butterfly is a browser-based geological data management platform built for diamond drilling and exploration programs. It runs in any modern browser, works offline, and syncs to the cloud automatically when you’re connected.

It is designed for the way exploration teams actually work — log core in the field, manage data from the office, share with collaborators, and export to GIS or modelling software when you need to.

What can it do?

  • Capture drillhole collar data and interval data (lithology, alteration, assays, geotechnical, samples, anything else you log)
  • Define your own schema with custom drillhole fields, data tables, column types, validation rules, and formula columns
  • Import historical data from CSV or Excel — single-domain, bulk, collar-only, or whole multi-sheet workbooks
  • Export to CSV, XLSX, or ZIP archives, with saved workflows for repeat deliveries
  • Visualize holes with depth-based Strip Log diagrams and an interactive 3D Viewer
  • Collaborate with team members under role-based access (Owner / Editor / Viewer) per project
  • Work fully offline with automatic background sync to the cloud
  • Back up and restore entire projects (JSON for in-app restore, SQL for external use)
  • Install as a Progressive Web App on desktop or mobile for a native-app experience that works offline

Who is it for?

  • Exploration geologists logging core in the field
  • Project geologists managing multi-hole programs
  • Data managers responsible for QA/QC and reporting
  • Junior mining and consulting companies that need a lightweight, field-ready logging tool without enterprise overhead

Where to start

If you’re brand new, head to the Quickstart — a single end-to-end walkthrough that takes you from sign-up to your first exported CSV in about fifteen minutes.

If you’d rather dip in by topic, the sidebar is organised by what you’re trying to do: set up a project, log data, import, visualise, export and share.

Status

Blue Butterfly is in unlimited beta. All features are available with no data limits.
